Excited much!
It is only three weeks until we leave for a new experience on the other side of the world. We are getting more organised now-I'm planning my packing and we are preparing to meet Federica, the owner of the apartment we will stay in in Camogli and pay her the rest of our accommodation money. This morning we talked about ordering Euros from the bank (as they usually have to order a larger amount in). Yesterday I got some lovely large reference books out of the library about Italy. This morning I found an interesting snippet on Michelangelo's David.....embarrassing, but I didn't realise that he is THE David from 'David & Goliath'!! ...and that this sculpture of him in the moments just before his fight the book says he is the ultimate symbol of bravery and power.

This little phrase book arrived today...it is written by an English speaking guy who has written a series of Europan phrase books. It looks really practical!
I have decided my hair colour won't last the whole time I'm away, so it could be fun toget it done in Camogli....here is the page in the phrase book that will help!! (eek).
And now I am trying to work out how to add a jump break.

Utube: How to say kiss and kiss me in Italian
Kiss- Bacio (pronounced 'ba' (sheep baa) + 'cho' (like the beginning of chocolate).
Kiss Me, to one person- Baciami (pronounced Baa-cha (like chacha) & me).
I want to kiss you- Ti Voglio bacirae (pronounced: T (letter T), volu (volume), baa (sheep) cha (chacha), ray (with a tongue twirl).
I love Michelangelo's David. A book you should read while you are away is 'The Agony and the Ecstasy' written by Irving Stone. It is a biographical novel about Michelangelo's life. Such a great read. The reason why David is standing the way he is is because the piece of marble Michelangelo used to carve it already had a slice in the middle so he had to carve around the crack. My favourite Michelangelo sculpture is the 'Madonna and Child' in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. It is Madonna with a full grown Christ draped across her lap. You have to go see it and climb up all the stairs to the top of the dome. Looking forward to reading more of your blogs. Wanda
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Wanda. I will see if the library has the book- I've been quite interested in learning some more about the art. I think the sculptures are what I'm looking forward to the most-although some of the paintings on ceilings look incredible!!
